"I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it…I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God's law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind." Romans 7:15;18;21-22
"Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised." Hebrews 10:36
"Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13
Are you tired? Are you struggling with your goals? Do you feel like you're not making any progress? As we just past the half way mark of the 21 Days of Prayer, I encourage you not to give up. Something great will happen in you if you just stay on this journey, one day at a time.
Here is what I have learned about any extended time of prayer and fasting. During the season of prayer, or during a fast, I may feel like nothing is happening. Through logging my experiences in my journal have I been able to see that I am usually quiet disappointed that I don't "feel" more spiritual or have some great revelation from God. I have tended to think, "I'm praying, I'm fasting…why isn't God talking to me? What's wrong with me?" Sometimes I have given up in discouragement.
Hang in there! What I have learned is that there is great benefit ahead. You don't get more faith...you already have it. Jesus said, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you have enough to move mountains. In other words, it's not that you don't have enough faith, the problem is that you have not used it very much.
Faith is intellectual initiative. Its residence is in the mind. It is as simple as, "I think this can happen." Cultivate it by using it. Using the faith you have is what makes it grow. Just start releasing what you have.
Hope is emotional maintenance. Hope is the process that let's faith go. If faith is intellectual, hope is the emotion. If you have hope, you can release faith. That is why it is so important to fill your mind with the promises of God from scripture. You need to read the stories of what God has done and can do. You need to talk about what God has done and what he can do with other believers. This is why gratitude is so powerful…it fuels hope. Faith cannot happen without the emotion of hope.
Love is behavior demonstration. It is the tangible, outward demonstration of faith and hope. "Because of faith and hope, this is what I do…I give to you…I want to see you get ahead…I want to see you succeed and prosper…" This is the beautiful behavior this dark world needs to see so desperately. Love is faith in action.
These are THE three most powerful forces in all history. They are what God is trying to build in you. It's happening! Don't give up now. You are on the journey of transformation. This is what will make us different than any other people in the world!
"Fasting is a sacrificial act that realigns our affections from the temporal to the eternal. It turns each moment of craving into a prayer of intense dependence." —Gary Rohrmayer
Father in Heaven, my flesh is tired, my spirit is weakening, and I want to give up. I believe you are doing a great work in me. You are changing me and renewing my mind. I don't have to please everyone. I don't have to be perfect. I know things are going to change. My hope is in you, so I think by Thanksgiving I will be a different person than I am today. I believe you are transforming me. Give me the mental focus, spiritual awareness and physical will to push through the quitting points as I seek to realign my desires to be within Your perfect will, Your mission and for Your glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
On the journey with you,
